Saving Myself

July 7th, 2008

Saving Myself‘ is project by Christian Gützer und Emanuel Andel. There is this bonsai tree inside a closed glass cube with its own controlable climate. This climate is responsable for the growth of the tree-rings, so you can ‘read’ the climate in those rings. This means that this bonsai tree becomes a data medium.
Every quarter, a camera takes a picture of the tree, a computer analyzes this image to define the exposure to light and a watering schedule for the next quarter. In this way, the bonsai tree saves an image of itself in its tree-rings with some delay.
