Mirrors Mirror is a new mechanical mirror made by Daniel Rozin.
Mirrors Mirror creates the viewers’ image by directing 768 small mirror tiles in a way that reflects different portions of their image. The piece is made of 24 columns of “pixels” that form a concaved curved surface that is aimed at the viewer. Brighter pixels reflect the upper body of the viewer and the wall behind him and dark ones are aimed lower. So the environment is important as it affects the reflection. The viewing experience is quite private as the resulting image can be seen only by the reflected person. This piece also includes an algorithmic animation feature that is triggered every time a person leaves the piece.
This video shows a public toilet in Lausanne, Switserland. It was designed by Oloom and its walls are partly made of liquid crystal glass. Under electric tension they are transparent, out of tension they turn opaque. I’m not sure how many people dare to use this toilet.
It actually reminds me of the dressing rooms at the Prada stores who feature just the same technology.
“What’s the point of giving you any more artworks when you don’t understand the ones you’ve got?” by Bethan Huws. The banknotes in the second image are not part of this piece, but a reflection from an installation across the room. They were both on display at “Art, Price and Value” exhibition at The Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina in Florence, Italy.
