Plug Into the Smart Grid

February 3rd, 2009

It’s been a while since I posted a website, but Caio Lazzuri from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners San Fancisco pointed me to their Plug Into the Smart Grid website. It is a campaign website for General Electric Smart Gird, it’s all about energy management. The 3D infographics are just stunning!
But the bonus is the augmented reality feature. Ok, it’s just a visual gimmick, but it’s one of best online implementations I have seen till now. You can choose between 3D wind turbines and 3D solar panels. A 3D scenery expands in your hands and is completely animated. It’s nice to see this technology in a corporate website without any weird plugins besides the Flash Player.
They’ve used the opensource Flash library FLARToolKit, which really deserve its credit.

Voice Drawing

February 3rd, 2009

Ze Frank, yeah you might heard of him, made a little flash drawing tool. You won’t need a mouse but  a microphone if you want to draw. A low volume tone will make the line curve counterclockwise, a medium will let it run straight and a high volume will turn the line to the right. Somehow he manged to draw this arty face and figure, unfortunately he didn’t post a video of him creating those. You can try it out for yourself here.
I bet he isn’t the first one to build something like this. It actually reminds me of the Sonic Wire Sculptor made by Amit Pitaru, which works the other way around. You can generate sound by drawing lines.

Charts Music

February 2nd, 2009

Songsmith music video remixes are the new internet meme and Wrongsmith a website who collects all those YouTube links. But this video called Charts Music tops it all, Johannes Kreidler fed that piece of Microsoft #*?!ware with all kind of charts. Excellent!
For those of you who don’t know about Songsmith … don’t bother.
