“Printed Matter” is very nice project by Evelin Kasikov. It’s about craft within the context of graphic design. She developed a special hand embroidery technique based on the analysis of optical mixture and colour printing processes. There is much more on her website!
“The Clock Clock” by Humans Since 1982 is a digital clock made from 24 analogue ones. Those 24 aren’t real clocks anymore like you can see in the video. But still nice.
Here are 2 other similar clocks projects worth checking out: O’clock and Christaan Postma Clock.
“Dark Night of the Soul” is the title of the new album of Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse. Yes you know Danger Mouse, he is one half of Gnarls Barkley but he became quite famous in 2004 when he released The Grey Album. This new album sounds quite different, there are actually many guest featured on it like Frank Black, The Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop and David Lynch to just name a few. EMI decided not to release it due to some legal issues. Danger Mouse decided to release it anyway, the catch … there’s a blank CD-R inside the jewel case. If you want to fill the CD-R, then you might want to look on you favorite P2P platform. You can buy one of the 5000 hand numbered ones for $50 form the website. (Shipping to Europe will cost you $80.85 extra!!!). It comes with a 100+ page book with photographs by David Lynch and an extra poster. You can listen listen to the tracks on the NPR website.
Way to go Danger Mouse! Eat that EMI!
E-KAN-OMIC CRISIS by Evan Roth is an updated version of “Retarded Kanye“. You actually have to visit the link to have the full experience. It’s part of the Kanye West week at F.A.T., there are a lot more projects to discover there.
I also want to remember you of the best Kanye West music video ever: Can’t tell me nothing.
Wait ’till I get my money right.
This is a very nice and funny commercial for Nike Basketball, starring LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as the Most Valuable Puppets. There is a second one called “Puppet Chalk“.
This music video for Rusty Naily by Moderat fits perfectly to my last post about the photography of William Hundley. Last night was actually the record release party at WMF in Berlin and it was quite hot. I didn’t know the support act Anstam before, but I really liked them. It’s almost impossible to find anything on these 2 German brothers, you can listen to their tracks on MySpace. Dark!
UPDATE 15/05/09 15:05:
The record label BPitchControl took down the video, apparently they are still quite old school.
Thumbs down!
But I found this 30 seconds excerpt, sorry for the b*tt ugly flash player.
“3.16 Billion Cycles” is a clock designed by Che-Wei Wang. 1 cycle takes 1 seconds, 3.16 billion cycles will take 100 years. After that time the clock will fall apart due to the gap in the outer arc.
A 60 rpm (revolutions per minute) motor drives the entire mechanism. It rotates once every second. The following pulley rotates once every 5 seconds (1:5 ratio). The next rotates once every 60 seconds or 1 minute. Then 5 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year, and 1 decade. The decade wheel carries the load of the large arc. The large arc rotates once every century. The final ratio between the 60 rpm motor and the large arc is approximately 1:31.6 billion.
Each wheel is marked with a black nut to highlight a position that could be tracked over time. Along the arc, 100 lines mark the divisions of each passing year. When the clock finally reaches the end of a 100 year cycle, the arc falls off its track onto the floor.
