This Sèvres Vase Clock by Georgios Maridakis actually works with any vase. You can place any you like on the stand and then adjust the hammer. Every hour the hammer will knock on the vase, the sound will depend on the vase of course. The combination of a hammer and porcelain is quite nice.
Zack Klauck and Emile Molin were asked by Nike to design packaging system that reflects their desire for lightness and sustainability during the Nike exhibition in Beijing last year. They decided to use a mesh wrap of recycled cardboard to make a packaging for a shirt and windbreaker together and one for a pair of shoes. I really like how they look and the fact that they wrote the sizes by hand. But I don’t really get why you would need a packaging for a shirt and windbreaker, except if there’re really limited gifts.
I’m a real fan of Mad Men, a TV series by AMC about the men and women of Madison Avenue advertising in the 1960′s. The acting, art direction and camera work are outstanding.
The advertising agency GSD&M Idea City, a real one, came up with the idea to do a collaboration between Mad Men, BMW and Vanity Fair. They produced on the set of Mad Men and with the show’s stylists and art director, a 5 page pictorial fold-out which will be published in the September issue of Vanity Fair. The idea behind is that America’s perceptions of diesel is still stuck in the 1960’s and wanted to juxtapose this with reality.
What about that? Mad Men really advertise something.
Food Design Probes is a research project by Philips. They developed ideas how we will eat and source our food in the future, like in 15 to 20 years. There are 3 products we might have in our homes by then:
The Nutrition Monitor. It basically has 3 parts, a sensor which you have to swallow, a scanner which can measure the nutritional value of food and a display device. So you’ll exactly know what your body needs and what kind of effect your food will have on it.
The Food Printer. Remember the 3D sugar printer? Well, this is the next generation. The machine brings molecular gastronomy to your kitchen. “Feed” is with some ingredients, pick a shape, let it print … and voilà your amazing 3D dish is ready. I can’t wait to see all the opensource 3D recipes that will be available!
Biosphere Home Farm. It’s a 21st century aquarium crossed with stylish shelving unit, it contains fish, plants and other mini ecosystems.
And this is how your plates could look like.
Baked Alaska
An assortment platter from left, papaya sorbet with yogurt crust, grapes of foie, chicken and sweetcorn chowder, mojito mis en bouche.
Armin Hofmann is a Swiss graphic designer. Here are few pages from his book “Graphic Design Manual: Principles and Practice “, it looks like I’ll have to add it to my wishlist. You can find some more pages in this Flickr set.
The Amateur Music Production project by Yuri Suzuki was an one afternoon event during the exhibtion “Coalition of Amateurs” at the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg. Yuri recorded music with 3 punk bands from Luxembourg (Tvesla, Takemeunderground (myspace.com/takemeundergroundband) and Yegussa) and pressed vinyls all during that one afternoon. I really like this DIY style. Unfortunately there is no audio sample available of a record playing.
