That bug was fixed around 4 years ago (in Tiger, during the Drunkenbatman era). And it's caused by image corruption, as it seems this GIF is using for the effect. But if it does for you, why not file a bug instead of just calling it "lame?" It's a popular open-source project worked on by some really smart and talented people who are pushing forward the state of the art in web technology. I've found them very receptive when I've reported issues in the past. It doesn’t crash Safari for me.
