A Guard to Guard the Guard
November 9th, 2009This is a photo from 1976 of the Waldemarstrasse in Berlin. The wall was still white because they had just rebuild it. A few years later it was full with the typical wall paintings. This Flickr set shows you an artist in action a little further down the street.
I’m currently living in that street but I’ll soon move to a new place exactly between those 2 white walls. Weird.

Costas, I just googled for the wall and the name of my street. It’s really weird to see how my neighborhood looked like 20 years ago. This piece of the Berlin wall in this photo was already gone the summer of 1990.
The East Side Gallery (in the youtube video) is around 2 km away and I think it’s a shame that they’ve renovated it.

I just discovered this! I’m glad to see that it worked some magic for people. Yes, all these years on, how things have changed! My friends in Berlin have photos of the place, too, though I have not seen in it person since I shot this. Odd for me to think that there are people who never knew it this way… equally happy to think they never will!
