KRE House

March 26th, 2010

The brief for this house was quite simple: “I want a 9 car garage and be able to enjoy viewing one of them in the living room.” Takuya Tsuchida designed exactly such a house, it has an elevator for one car from the garage to the living room. I can totally understand the owner of a Lamborghini Countach Anniversary edition, to make such a request. I guess it’s no surprise that can find this house in Tokyo.

adidas Transform Pack Stan Smith

March 25th, 2010

It’s been a while since I bought a fresh pair of sneakers, but I’m pretty sure that these Stan Smith’s of the adidas Transform Pack will be my next. adidas actually released quite a few nice sneakers lately, but these are two in one. The concept isn’t revolutionary, we’ve seen it before with some Raf Simons sneakers, but the execution is the way I like it.

Julien Berthier

March 24th, 2010

Julien Berthier is a French artist who does really nice projects. Here’re my favorites:

Balcon additionnel, a plastic Haussmannian-style balcony can be placed anywhere.

Love Love, a wrecked ship became a functional and safe leisure object.

Self
Both “self-preservation” and “self-destruction”, this violent gesture of self mutilation to prune the week ones, could be the surviving act of a dying plant as well as the victory of one branch, the highest and the largest, over all the others.

Le paradoxe de Robinson, who doesn’t want to see a palm tree swaying in the wind from his office window.

BASTER is Bas Koopmans his professional playground. The interface of his website is a little quirky, but his projects are great. I really like these 2 projects:

Innen Stadt Außen

March 23rd, 2010

Innen Stadt Außen” is the title of Olafur Eliasson his upcomming exhibition at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin.

Innen Stadt Außen concerns itself closely with the relationship between museum and city, architecture and landscape, as well as between space, body and time. The site-specific investigations within the museum are amplified and commented on through ephemeral projects in public space, thus linking the Martin-Gropius-Bau to various places within the city.

This photo of the Berlin Fernsehturm gives you an idea what to expect. The exhibition opens on April 28th and you’ll have time till August 9th to go and see it.

Drawing Pendulums

March 23rd, 2010

Petros Vrellis made these 2 pendulums which can draw. He used openFrameworks and some electronics to let the pendulums drop ink at the right time on the right spot. The first one is called “Irrational pendulum” and draws a square. The whole process takes around 6 minutes. The video shows this at a faster speed.

The second one is called “A drawing pendulum”. The pendulum need 15 minutes to draw this face.
