Pre-Handshake Handshake Device
May 18th, 2010“Pre-Handshake Handshake Device” by Dominic Wilcox.
Many people in the world seem to be at war with each other. We see families split through disagreements, gang warfare on the streets, politicians arguing, whole civilisations and religions constantly battling. This device aims to help those who are at odds with each other make a first move toward reconciliation.
A traditional handshake can sometimes be just too big a step for those entrenched in their dislike of the other. No matter how important it is for two people to reconcile their differences they simply can’t get over their pride and lower themselves to the symbolism of a handshake with the other party.

Folded Paper
May 17th, 2010I’ve just rediscovered the amazing paper art by Simon Schubert. It’s not really clear if he really folds the paper or if he rubs the lines into the paper. Anyway, amazing work!
Some of these pieces are more abstract than his previous work.
“boat”

“plain with figure”

“house on a plain”

“corridor with wave motion”

Chippensteel 0.5
May 17th, 2010The Chippensteel 0.5 is a chair designed by Oskar Zieta. This chair is made with exactly the same production technique called FiDU as his stool Plopp. FiDU is an abbreviation for German “FreieInnenDruckUmformung” – the Internal Pressure Forming. It means that two shapes cut from steel sheets are welded around their edges and inflated into a 3d object under high pressure. I really like the simplicity of this technique and Oskar seems to push its boundaries to the limit.

M.T. with Pistol
May 11th, 2010I was quite surprised that I haven’t posted anything from Thom Puckey before. So here is one of his life size marble sculptures: “M.T. with Pistol”. Weird stuff.
