DMY 2010 International Design Festival Berlin

June 9th, 2010

Tonight is the opening of the DMY 2010 International Design Festival in Berlin and I’m really looking forward to see some new inspiring work. The next few days are packed with events and workshops. The DMY Maker Lab sure does sound interesting, but also the symposium on Saturday with the topic “Are nerds the new designers?” is worth to check out.
I’m curious how the DMY version of this Tape Installation by Numen / For Use will look like. Especially in one of the huge hangars of the former city airport Berlin Tempelhof.

Underwater Base Jump

June 9th, 2010

Free Fall is a video made by the freedivers Guillaume Néry and Julie Gautier. You can see Guillaume doing a base jump into Dean’s Blue Hole. They say it’s a fictional and artistic project, they wanted to show another approach to freediving videos. Even Julie, who filmed everything with a Canon 5D Mark II, hold her breath the whole time. The result is awesome.

Ikea Robotics

June 7th, 2010

Ikea Robotics was Adam Lassy his thesis project at ITP, Tisch School of the Arts in New York. He modified Ikea furniture to create mobile, wireless robots which can sense the spatial needs of it’s owner. The first video demos this behaviour. The second I find even more interesting, here he programmed the furniture to display some animal characteristics.

The Invisible Dress

June 7th, 2010

A few months ago I’ve showed you The Invisible Shoe designed by Andreia Chaves. The shoe inspired Margaux Bolle, a 5th year student at La Cambre, to design this dress.
