I’ve featured many different Artisanal collections by Maison Martin Margiela before. The collection is always very limited and made by hand. All the designs are made of “found objects” like ski gloves, elastic cords or fake eyelashes. And that’s what I mostly found interesting about it. This video shows you the atelier where those pieces are made. We’ll see if something will change now that Martin left the Maison.
I know that I posted this new Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal collection 2 weeks ago, but Diane Pernet posted some new images on her blog. This time the pieces are in black, white and grey. Each one of them is handmade with the most exclusive materials available like door curtains, plastic pen caps, elastic cords, fake eyelashes …
Maison Martin Margiela killed it again with its Artisanal Fall 2009 collection. They must have a big laugh at everyone who take the whole fashion circus too seriously. Their message to the normal people is probably DIY, just go to your local hardware store, buy anything and wear it.
The Artisanal collection by Maison Martin Margiela is one of the few fashion things I’m interested in. The collection is just a few pieces made by hand, one of one. The garments are always made of unusual materials. Here are few picks from the current collection, you can find the white shoestring dress here.
Paper Towel Tuxedo Jacket by Maison Martin Margiela.
Hair Comb Short Dress by Maison Martin Margiela.
Mask Bolero by Maison Martin Margiela, made of latex hair masks.
Plastic Fur Jacket by Maison Martin Margiela, made of plastic garment label fastenings.
Here are 2 pieces from the new Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal collection. The white dress is completely made of white shoe laces, the other one of combs. It must be fun to design these. The collection should appear next month on the Maison Martin Margiela website.
This is not your average winter jacket, this one is by Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal and is made of ski gloves. It takes 103 hours to create one and costs $15,124. Unique.
Ski gloves are used as the raw material to create a blouson with or without sleeves.
Over dyed in dark colours the gloves are unstitched and laid flat so that all original detailing may remain intact and they may be assembled directly on a black cotton base prepared on a tailor’s dummy. Two inserted pockets are added to the front of each blouson.
