adidas Y-3 Autumn/Winter 2009

August 28th, 2009

Autumn is right around the corner and most fashion brands are launching their campaigns. So did adidas Y-3, last season was all about surveillance cameras, this time the campaign is called “Satellite”. The website is once again a very nice execution of this concept, the digital glitches during the transitions are top notch.  When it comes to the apparel, well it’s adidas Y-3, it’s not for everybody but there some nice pieces in the collection.
Made by Sid Lee Amsterdam.

adidas Y-3 Spring / Summer 2009

March 2nd, 2009

It is probably no suprise that I mention the new adidas Y-3 Spring / Summer 2009 campaign. The adidas Y-3 website is one of the few websites out there, where you can expect a very nice relaunch twice a year. It’s a fashion brand after all.
They have choosen to use the surveillance cameras kind of look for the website and the campaign video. If you are a regular here, you’ll have noticed that digital glitches are my thing. The Y-3 products are still quite different than the new adidas SLVR collection, they are more true fashion. I’m not a expert, but some of the women’s footwear designs look quite fresh.
But be warned, the website is quite heavy and will take some time to load.

adidas Y-3 fall/winter 2008-2009

August 22nd, 2008

The adidas Y-3 is one of the few websites who relaunch twice a year. It’s a fashion thing I guess, adidas Y-3 is a cooperation between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto. Over the years, the website was always on the forefront of Flash based web design. But it is nice to see that they are cutting down on the effects and go for a more straight forward approach. I’ve noticed this on many websites lately, simplicity is making a big comeback. So maybe the spring/summer 2009 website will be mix between Flash and HTML.

This womens shoe called ‘Molnet’ is definitely one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen with 3 stripes on. It is so hideous that is cool again, just never ever put those red things on.

adidas Y-3

Every single season, adidas Y-3, adidas’ coopertation with Yohji Yamamoto, releases a new website. This seasons one has this digital error atmosphere, the sound and the visual effects are a prefect match. The navigation isn’t anything for people who are in a hurry, but the love for details makes up for it. I really liked the FW 2006 website and some even older ones. They actually should put up an archive!
Let’s see what Fall Winter 2008 2009 brings.

EDIT:
Of course there is an archive. Neue Digitale, the agency responsible for all those websites, has them archived:

adidas Y-3

The new website for the adidas Y – 3 FW 2006 collection was launched recently. Again this website sets a new mark in flash design. Ok, the loading times are quite long, but the design and the features make you forget that in an instance.

adidas SLVR

January 26th, 2009

adidas will launch a new brand next month called adidas SLVR. There isn’t much information available yet, but it will be possitioned between adidas Originals and adidas Y-3.

The adidas SLVR label’s key message is “Simply Perfect”. The range shows a timeless and considered design; one that conveys a minimalist character, yet is fresh and progressive. The collection includes apparel, footwear and accessories for both men & women.

adidas No.74 Concept Store

Today I finally had the time to visit the new adidas concept store No.74 in Berlin. Its name is quite self explanatory … its location is in the Torstrasse 74. At the moment they only have the adidas Y-3 spring summer collection, in May and June they will have selection of adidas Originals. From July on, they will have a wider product range with limited editions and special items related to Berlin. You may also expect a China like market shop interior in the coming months, hence the olympics. Definitely a new spot on my Berlin tour.

FAC51-Y3

July 25th, 2007

FAC51-Y3

This is the FAC51-Y3, it’s not just an other adidas Y-3 sneaker, this one has real story behind it. Adidas Y-3 is opening a store in Manchester and to celebrate that event they teamed up with The Haçienda, Manchester’s most legendary club which is having its 25th anniversary. The FAC51-Y3 is not really my kind of sneaker, Y-3 has better ones, but I think the design fits the club. The name is just like a record catalog number, FAC51 stands for a record release on Factory Records and Y3 … that’s self-explanatory. The sneaker was a collaboration between Peter Saville, once graphic designer for Factory Records, Ben Kelly, the architect responsible for the interiors of the now legendary club, and Peter Hook, bass player of Joy Division / New Order. The whole package looks amazing, the shoe box resembles the shape of the club’s dancefloor. Of course this is a strictly limited release, only 250 pairs will be available. You’ll have to cough up €500 if you want to lay your hands on these.
I have praised the Y-3 website before, the 360° feature is so well executed! It’s so much fun browsing that I’ve just found a new must have, that Hodded blouson.
