Binary’s Forth Fugue

October 25th, 2011

Binary’s Forth Fugue is series of animated gifs made by JK Keller. He used a set of arrow icons designed by Yusuke Kamiyamane, to create animations similar to L-system growth models. The directional path of the arrow attempts to find a forward progression in mounting uncertainty & indecisiveness, eventually bowing to the emergent cacophony of the powers of 2. Mesmerizing work!

Here’re 3 pieces from Iris van Herpen‘s Capriole collection. I guess they’re more wearable sculptures than fashion.

Venus de Milo

October 17th, 2011

It took me quite some time find any information about this image. I found it initially on Traditional Doom, but thank to Google Image Search I figured out that this Venus de Milo was photographed in Jean Paul Gaultier his studio. And now I’m at a dead end. Does anyone know if this is custom installation at Gaultiers studio or does anyone know the artist? Thanks for any hints. Thanks to commenters for pointing out that it’s an installation by Studio Makkink & Bey.
(BTW, seriously Tumblr, get your act together, you’re obfuscating the internet.)

Google Vase

October 10th, 2011

Daniel Michel searched for 8 different vases on Google Images. The rotation outlines of the 8 vases were arranged around a center and connected by minimal surfaces in a 3D construction software. Afterwards the textures were set on the surfaces and the vase was printed by a 3D-Printer in plaster.

Logic and Love in Art

October 3rd, 2011

Words and Years is a series of graphs based on research in various academic journals and magazines by Toril Johannessen. Going through the complete volumes of the journals from the first issues up until today, selected words are highlighted and the frequency of their use is mapped. This is my favorite one: Logic and Love in Art.
