Eric Ku

May 26th, 2009

How did young designers show off their work in the pre internet era? It is so nice to find online portfolios filled with nice projects these days. So here are 2 projects by Eric Ku: CHAIR/CHAIR and “Only Graphic Designers Can See – Magazine, Issue 1″.

Rubik’s Cube Font Generator

May 20th, 2009

Jas Bhachu made this very cool Rubik’s Cube Font Generator. He attached rubber stamps to 4 sides of the cube, so you can create you own characters. It comes in a really nice package with some instructions. You probably can’t buy one as this is project which he did at Liverpool School of Art & Design.

Printed Matter

May 18th, 2009

“Printed Matter” is very nice project by Evelin Kasikov. It’s about craft within the context of graphic design. She developed a special hand embroidery technique based on the analysis of optical mixture and colour printing processes. There is much more on her website!

Intersection

May 12th, 2009

Last Saturday was the launch of the German edition of the car magazine Intersection. The first I’ve heard about Intersection was when they presented their Car Covers project. I must admit that I’m pleasantly surprised with the magazine; I don’t read car magazines. Intersection is definitely the most esthetically one I have ever seen. Don’t expect the normal number crunching content, but spreads like the one below shot by Thomas Brown or other art, design and fashion topics … and a lot of cars of course.

Invitations for de Gele Rijder Arnhem

April 28th, 2009

Sieger Duinkerken designed these invitations for exhibitions at de Gele Rijder in Arnhem, The Netherlands. You have to slide a stroked transparent film over the print to be able to read the copy and to even see it animated.

Art Directors Against Futura Extra Bold Condensed

April 19th, 2009

“It’s time for Art Directors the world over to boycott the use of Futura Extra Bold Condensed – the most over-used typeface in advertising history. Destroy the Great Satan of clichés and the Little Satan of convenience, and rally to the cause of a better type selection.
Please fill out the enclosed petition and mail it to our headquarters. It will be used to sway the opinion-makers of our industry toward our just and worthy cause.
Together, we can whip this mother.”

Really??? That was a common opinion in 1992?
These 2 pages were designed by Jerry Ketel are were published in the 1992′s TDC Typography 13.
