Cloud Paper Sofa by Tokujin Yoshioka

April 6th, 2009

This is a prototype of the Cloud sofa by Tokujin Yoshioka. It is made of paper, probably the same kind as these paper bags by Saskia Diez. Moroso will produce them later with different fabrics and other materials for daily use.
There are so many previews of the Milan furniture fair recently, I’m wondering if there is going any new product launch at all in Milan.

Baker Tweet

April 6th, 2009

Baker Tweet is one of the best Twitter applications I have seen. With this box, your favorite bakery can let every follower know what’s fresh out of the oven. The baker can pick the right pre-written message with the knob on the box and then press a button. Boom, there is a queue.

Paper Teddy Bear Kuma

March 31st, 2009

This teddy bear called Kuma is not the kind you would give to a child. It is made of paper and was designed by the Japanese architect Ryuji Nakamura. The visual effect is really nice.

Windup Flashlight

March 30th, 2009

The Windup Flashlight by Lavrans Laading works without any batteries. You just have to twist it, the energy is then stored in some springs and slowly released to a generator. This prototype can run for 2 to 3 minutes on one charge. An old concept with a nice twist.

“Saving Space Vase” by Joe Velluto. After molding the initial form, pressure is applied to it to obtain this dented look. The vase is inspired by how we compact empty plastic bottles.

Hundredstenunits Collection One

March 26th, 2009

I quite like the simplicity of Collection One by Hundredstenunits. I really would like to know how they fitted the LED’s into that lamp.

Tensile Series by James Clar

March 26th, 2009

“Tensile Series” by James Clar is a series of spatial light sculptures that use tense wires to create a self-supporting structure. The wires that create tension, holding up the structure, also provide the electricity. They are minimal sculptures and floor lamps.

Chairs for the Dysfunctional

March 20th, 2009

Alice Wang designed 5 “Chairs for the Dysfunctional”. The “Skilled Tilter” would fit me perfectly, it would also be interesting to try out the “Constant Shaker”. It calculates the amount of calories burnt when one fidgets or shakes their leg when sitting down. The “Status Announcer” would be for everyone with a Facebook or Twitter account.
