Checkland Kindleysides is a design firm in Cossington, the UK. The animations on their website are superb. I can live with the paper sounds, but please, get rid of those ambient sounds! Make sure that you check them out on Google Maps.

Wallpaper Architects Directory 2007

July 13th, 2007

Wallpaper just launched its “101 of the world’s most exciting new architects” special, that got even me excited as I really like architecture. Unfortunately the whole excitement cooled down after just 2 clicks. The first impression I’ve had of the website was something like “ok, a minimal, non distracting web design, good”. But after the second click, I wanted to see some work, but firefox told me that it blocked a popup window. What? They didn’t manage to display the content in this grid? They decided to deeplink into the main website. What a poor example of “interface/information architecture”.

Rhythm Of Lines – II

rhythm_of_lines.jpg

This new website for the Audi A5 called ‘A rhythm of lines‘, continues where the TV commercial left us a few weeks back. The user can create it’s own rhythm of line by hitting a few keys and moving around with his mouse. Afterwards you can take a picture of your composition and save it as a wallpaper or watch your animation again. All very sleek, just like the car.
The whole 3D lines thingy, is build with the open source Flash 3D engine called Papervision3D.

Gui Borchert

June 29th, 2007

Gui Borchert is an associate creative director at R/GA, the online agency that is responsible for most of Nike’s websites. You can find almost every design for Nike in his portfolio. One of them is a series of concept boards and alternate directions for the Nike+ website. It’s very interesting to see how the different ideas developed to what the current website looks like. I hope that Nike will relaunch its running websites soon as one and use the screen real estate a little better than as they do now.
Here are 2 mock-up’s for the Nike+ website.

Diesel Liquid Space

Diesel Liquid Space

Diesel latest online event, Diesel Liquid Space, is just over; only 1 day after winning a Cannes Cyber Lion Grand Prix for its previous one called ‘Heidies‘. That award is a major thing in the advertising business, at least for some people.
Diesel Liquid Space was a live video stream of Diesel’s fashion show in Florence, Italy. First came a prelude with a presenter. The show itself was ‘different’ that other fashion shows because they used some sort of video holograms, otherwise nothing shocking. It was quite hard to see ‘the fashion’ as the video was very small. But luckily there were the hologram videos to distract everyone, they showed some sort of underwater world with fish, turtles and squids. At the end of the show, the video projection wrapped up in 2 blobs, which disappeared in 2 bottles on stage. Then Renzo Rosso, Diesel’s chief, came on, picked up the bottles and sprayed some fragrance into the audience. Quite a nice effect.
Afterwards the presenter came back to report from the after party, that didn’t go down that well, it was a little chaotic … the Italian style I guess.

EDIT: Diesel posted the show on YouTube.

There are some screenshots after the jump.

Nike+ Widgets

June 11th, 2007

Nike+ keeps expanding it’s tools and services, so here are the widgets. You can now post your Nike+ data on every other site you want. You can pick a particular run or your fastest or longest or …
The only thing they still have to do is merging the Nike+ website with the Nike Running website.

Street View

Google Maps Street View

There some new features on Google Maps. First, in the ‘Map’ view you can now find 3D outlines of buildings, the poor intern who had to model them all … Second, ‘Street View’ let you browse the streets in a whole different 3D – arrows way, very neat! Of course these new toys aren’t available everywhere yet, but you can try them out in New York.
