today and tomorrow

This years exhibition by the Design Academy Eindhoven in Milan was called ‘Still’. Here are 3 projects that I really liked.

‘Safely Dangerous Kitchen’ by Jonathan Ben-tovim. I guess you can’t really reduce it much more.

‘Soil Lamp’ by Marieke Staps. This lamps works with mud, the metabolism of the biological life generates enough electricity to light an LED. The only thing this lamp needs is a little bit of water from time to time.

‘Idea of a Clock’ by Hans Tan. I guess this doesn’t need any explanation. ‘Portrait of a Lamp‘ also belongs to this project called ‘The imaginary mass of things’.

‘A touch of Green’ is the title of the exhibition by Droog Design in Milan. Here are 2 projects that I picked out:

‘Table Tap’ by Arnout Visser. A simple and funny idea.

‘Massive Infection’ by Pieke Bergmans. She worked together with a glass blower to create these crystal vases who are pressed (still hot) onto the wooden objects and then leave black burned stains. This one of the best things I’ve seen for a while! She has a lot more projects like this one on her website.

No, this isn’t an abstract painting but a detail in the Walter Gropius Masters’ House in Dessau, Germany. Gropius was the founder and the first director of the famous Bauhaus academy.

‘Muuto‘ by Harri Koskinen.

Thanks to nadejda, I now know that this lamp is called ‘Cosy in Grey’ and that Muuto is the brand.

It’s going to be quiet here till Monday … Once again I’m spending some time in my Heimat (homeland) as the Germans use to say.

Yeah, I had to read that twice … That little island is a vulcano point in Crater Lake on Vulcano Island in Lake Taal on Luzon (the Philippines). Here you can see it on Google Maps. You can find more facts about islands and lakes here.
