Remember the Nike Music Shoe ad from 2 weeks ago? Well, here’s the making of video. Seems like it was a very fun project.

Nike Music Shoe is an awesome ad for the Nike Free Run+ shoe. In the video you can see Hifana doing a live performance by using the shoes as controllers. By bending the flexible sole of the Nike Free Run+, they can control different sounds. I’m actually pretty sure that it is real because I think that I spotted Daito Manabe in the video. And we all know what he’s capable of. I guess they’ve used some flexible sensors and hooked them up to MaxMSP. Great work!

UPDATE:
Indeed the shoes used in the video are the real sound controllers. Tomoaki Yanagisawa of 4nchor5 la6 was responsible for the hardware part. He added flexible and accelerometer sensors to the shoes. Daito Manabe of rhizomatiks did the sound programming with Max.
They were both commissioned by Wieden + Kennedy Tokyo for this project.

adidas Transform Pack Stan Smith

It’s been a while since I bought a fresh pair of sneakers, but I’m pretty sure that these Stan Smith’s of the adidas Transform Pack will be my next. adidas actually released quite a few nice sneakers lately, but these are two in one. The concept isn’t revolutionary, we’ve seen it before with some Raf Simons sneakers, but the execution is the way I like it.

Solebox x adidas Berlin

It’s been a while since I saw a sneaker that got me interested, but my next pair will be the Solebox adidas Berlin. They’re part of the adidas Consortium City Series and I guess adidas didn’t really had a hard time to come up with a Berlin partner for their adidas Berlin model. The Solebox brothers did a great job with the design, details like their birthdays and the original colorway on the inside give the sneaker the real Solebox touch.

adidas Y-3 Autumn/Winter 2009

Autumn is right around the corner and most fashion brands are launching their campaigns. So did adidas Y-3, last season was all about surveillance cameras, this time the campaign is called “Satellite”. The website is once again a very nice execution of this concept, the digital glitches during the transitions are top notch. When it comes to the apparel, well it’s adidas Y-3, it’s not for everybody but there some nice pieces in the collection.

Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places

The next stop of the Europeam Nike IAM1 Journey is London. They asked INSA, the infamous London-based artist, to do an installation and exhibition with his trademark pieces. It’s quite nice to see how he can scale them and how they fit perfectly together. Just watch the video to see what I mean.
Next Friday is the opening of “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” at 1948 in London.

Nike The IAM1 Journey

Nike is re-releasing the OG colorways of the the Air Max 1 sneaker, the ones still missing in my collection … But they also introduce a new version called the Air Maxim, based on the same silhouette but using the newly developed materials. The title of the European campaign is “The IAM1 Journey“. Nike will introduce you to 5 creative hotspots in Europe and Berlin is the first one. So which visual language did they chose? Exactly … a tilt-shift time lapse video. Once again very lush imagery.

adidas Women’s Archive Exhibition at No74 Berlin

adidas is organising a small exhibition at their N0 74 Berlin store, starting this Wednesday July 1st. They will be showing women’s footwear from the 1968 Azteka Gold till the 2006 adicolor Sneaker. The exhibition will be runing till July 15th, so if you’re around and you want to see some vintage adidas footwear …
During the Berlin Fashion Week, the No 74 store will also have a small bar in their garden – open from 4 till 8 PM.

Puma Lift

A while ago I posted a video called Displacements by Michael Naimark. He basically filmed a room, then he spray-painted it completely white and in the end he projected the video back on those white objects in the room.
I was always wondering when this visual gimmick would be used for a TV commercial. Well, the waiting is over: “Puma Lift“. The New York ad agency Droga5 made this film where you can see a couple moving through different virtual sceneries. In the end they reveal that the whole room and the clothing was actually white and that it was a projection.
I think that the film is great, it was probably a lot of work to get the movements and the projection in sync. But they could have presented this film to any other brand, it is very generic.
You should watch it anyway!

adidas Y-3 Spring / Summer 2009

It is probably no suprise that I mention the new adidas Y-3 Spring / Summer 2009 campaign. The adidas Y-3 website is one of the few websites out there, where you can expect a very nice relaunch twice a year. It’s a fashion brand after all.
They have choosen to use the surveillance cameras kind of look for the website and the campaign video. If you are a regular here, you’ll have noticed that digital glitches are my thing. The Y-3 products are still quite different than the new adidas SLVR collection, they are more true fashion. I’m not a expert, but some of the women’s footwear designs look quite fresh.
But be warned, the website is quite heavy and will take some time to load.

adidas SLVR 101

The new adidas SLVR line is finally available, judging for the pictures it looks very minimal. This sneaker called the SLVR 101 definitely looks quite different than any other one from adidas. The upper is made of only six pieces, they were stitched together instead of using glue. The upper is sewed to a one-piece outsole. By comparison, an average sneaker is build up from 25 to 30 pieces. The 7 pieces SLVR 101 fulfills the SLVR concept of “Reduced Complexity” perfectly. The SLVR 101 is also available in white.

The Berlin adidas House Party – The Video

2 weeks ago, adidas celebrated its 60th birthday with a true house party in Berlin. The interior decoration was done with much love to details, as these images prove. The food and drinks were in sync the theme and the DJ’s rocked the place. So here is video of the party, it is basically impossible to capture a real party on film.

On January 29th, 2009 adidas and No 74 celebrated 60 years of Soles and Stripes with an exclusive House Party. The adidas No 74 store was redesigned to resemble a real apartment including kitchenette, bath- and living room and decorated with several lovely details such as framed images of Adi Dassler and supporters from the past sixty years of adidas history. Local DJs joined the party with a mix of great hip hop tunes, funk and electro music. Watch the video & Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us!

Nike City Knife II

It has been a while since I saw something fresh from Nike. It seems that they only do crazy colorways or fake vintage these days … So here comes the Nike City Knife II: a foldable lightweight shoe. Kirsten Schambra who is responsible for the design, was inspired by origami structures. She taped a rough concept to a shoe last and developed it further from there. The concept is actually very simple, but I’m not sure if it will appeal to a wide audience. I like them, hey they are made of polygons!

The Berlin adidas House Party

Yesterday evening was the Berlin edition of the adidas House Party to celebrate the 60th birthday of adidas. It took place at the adidas No 74 Concept store. The shop was completly redecorated to fit the house party theme. There was no bar where you could get a drink, you just had to go to kitchen and fix yourself a drink. There were also regular pizza deliveries. It felt like a real house party. Of course the music was top notch too. It was a blast.
Besides the party, adidas organized a special sale yesterday. They sold 2500 pair of adidas Consortiums and adidas Originals sneakers for the amazing price of 20 euros a pair. This offer drew a huge crowd, but it went down in orderly way, you were only allowed to buy 3 pairs. The sales started at noon but there were still people waiting in line till very late in the evening.
I can only hope that this was just the start of adidas 60th birthday celebrations!
