I’m totally stoked by these photos by Ross McDonnell. He documented the lives of the youths who grew up in shadows of Ballymun’s towers, just outside of Dublin. A flagrant example of Irish social planning gone awry.
Soft Wood is a series of chairs designed by Veronika Wildgruber that appear at first to be made in fabric with the soft appearance of pillows. But in reality they are sculpted in solid wood. The chairs trick the mind because the surface and texture connotes the opposite of what we think and know about the characteristics of wood.
Last Friday I went to see SPEED SHOW vol.1: TELE-INTERNET, a one night group show curated by Aram Bartholl. He rented all the computers of an internet-café and showed pop.net.art pieces from 12 artists. An awesome idea!
On of the pieces was “Animated Gif Mashup 2.0” by Evan Roth. It’s an online browser tool where you can create your own animated gif collages and give it even a background sound. You can build your own one here.
Today, rAndom International presents their latest work “Swarm Light” at Design Miami/Art Basel. It’s an experimental light installation with a real‚ collective consciousness that subtly reacts to the viewer’s audible presence. The viewers‘ presence creates a soundscape that directly alters the behaviour of the entire environment surrounding ‘Swarm Light‘. Human presence brings a basic form of artificial intelligence to life.
Fingerings are drawings made by Judith Braun by only using her fingers, dipped in charcoal or pastel. Sometimes she uses both hands simultaneously to the extent of her arms’ reach to create symmetrical patterns.
