Quarter Mile Groove
February 22nd, 2010“Quarter Mile Groove” by Daniel Eatock.
The recording translates the length of its vinyl groove into audio allowing listeners to experience the 1/4 mile length of the spiral as the record is played. Every inch of the needle’s path is audible in the form of a click, each foot as a beat and distances of 10 feet are heard as a blip. These sounds gradually slow as the stylus approaches the center, (the stylus travels less distance in the groove with each revolution of the record). Along the way, the voice of the narrator mentions the horizontal dimensions of particular objects.
Production by Malcolm Goldie.

This tangle is the unbroken, vinyl residue resulting from the initial master cutting of Quarter Mile Groove. Unraveled, this thread of vinyl would be 1⁄4 mile in length.

Daniel Rozin: X by Y
February 18th, 2010“X by Y” is Daniel Rozin his current exhibition at the Bitforms Gallery in New York, but it’s also the title of one of his interactive installations. “X by Y” is a little different than his other mechanical mirrors, this time he arranged forty-four wooden slats horizontally and vertically. Of course they are controlled by motors and react on camera input. The result is an interactive pattern / grid display.

A second new piece that he presents is “Rust Mirror”. It’s made of 768 oxidized steel tiles and works like most of his mechanical mirrors.

The third one is a piece from 2008: “Mirrors Mirror”. I know that I’ve posted it before but it is still great.

Do Not Turn Off
February 15th, 2010We’re still looking for some new lights for our new place, it’s not really that easy. I would settle for something like “Do Not Turn Off” by Pravdoliub Ivanov.

Destroy Infinite Value
February 15th, 2010“Destroy Infinite Value” by Anne de Vries.
In this work I want to bring the concept how a digital photograph can be duplicated endlessly to a more physical understanding. Therefor I used 3 of the same photographic prints on top of eachother in a frame. (similar to the way Layers function in Photoshop software ) It was a joy to know that the picture would still stay complete while taking parts out with a knife. While at the same time the prints got even more unique and gained more value as an art piece.
