NR53
November 14th, 2006How do you sell your house? Indeed, you make a website for it. NR53 isn’t your average house, it’s the house of Sietze Kalkwijk, a dutch designer, in Antwerp Belgium. Actually I posted his black radiator lamp before.

Radiators are an ugly necessity, there are exceptions of course … like this one for example. Sietze Kalkwijk has a different kind of radiator in his house in Antwerp, Belgium. His is black and hangs above the floor, the clue is that it’s also a lamp. I found this picture in Relucts flickr account.
Hey, we’re just back from our holiday in Belgium. It was a real relaxing time, no driving through Belgium to visit anyone, just a week at the coast.
Okay, let’s see what I missed last week.
Hey, we’re in Belgium, visiting family and friends.
A typical sunday afternoon activity is going to an exhibit. So my dad said we could go to Le Grand-Hornu, so we checked the website … and apparently there was an exhibit about Droog Design, so that was a quick decision!
Most of the exhibited products were familiar but it was still very impressive to see all of them together. The location was also very nice, Le Grand-Hornu is an old mine site that was nicely renovated. We’ll definitely keep an eye on their exhibition calander.

EDIT:
Here’re all the pictures: flickr set.
Finally a belgian designer that I can feature (after all those dutsch, swedish and french ones): Charles Kaisin.
Charles designed this handbag for Delvaux, a real household name in Belgium. Again a very simple idea well executed.

Julian Opie is an artist. I saw a small exhibit of his work a few years ago in Belgium. Today I stumbled on his website, which is stuck in the OS 9 operating system metaphor. His work is hard to describe … maybe this animations tells it all.

This is my favorite chair of all times. Designboom held a folding chairs competition and this entry was made by the Belgian Dries Verbruggen.

Mmmh …
Nederlands?
English?
Deutsch?
Decision: english. Ok, it’s not my mother tongue, so some grammar and spelling mistakes will pop up.
Actually it is the Belgian national holiday today and as english is not one of the three official languages (dutch, french and german) it should be fine.
