Antagonistic Books
January 19th, 2010Antagonistic Books is a set of two books made by Zach Gage. They turn the emotions and actions surrounding the banning of books into physical objects that undermine the user. The first book, Danger, reenacts what has historically been done to dangerous literature, self-immolating when opened. The second book, Curiosity, represents the notion that many book-banners feel, that the true danger of literature is that once you’ve opened a book you have been forever changed and can never go back. Emulating this notion, Curiosity can never be closed. Once opened, it is locked in an open position forever.

Display Book Shelf
November 3rd, 2009Display Book Shelf by Daniel Eatock.
MDF shelf, 6 feet long, 1 foot wide, 3/4 inch thick, resting on two metal brackets displaying books borrowed from Belk Library. The shelf sags under the weight of its contents in a graceful arc, the top edges of all the books are perfectly flush as a result of a conscious selection of volumes chosen to accommodate (or compensate for) the arc of the sagging shelf.

It’s Nice That Issue #2
September 3rd, 2009Do you know the website It’s Nice That? I’ve reblogged some of Will Hudson and Alex Bec their posts before, they feature the very best contemporary work from across the creative industry. You should add It’s Nice That to your feedreader!
Next month, the second issue of their bi-annual printed publication comes out. It’s 128 pages full of the best work they’ve featured on the site in the past six months in more depth, alongside a series of interviews and features written by current practitioners that have never been seen before. Here’re a few names: Rafaël Rozendaal, Barnaby Barford, Sam Messenger, Jen Stark, Körner Union, Li Wei … It’s Nice That and today and tomorrow have a similar taste.
I bought the first issue and I can truely recommend you to buy the second one. When you pre-order a copy before September 30th, you’ll receive an exclusive, free screen print by Rob Ryan.
I’ve just pre-ordered my copy!
