These illuminated tires were developed by Goodyear in 1961. They’re made from a single piece of synthetic rubber and are brightly lit by bulbs mounted inside the wheel rim. The Goodyear Tire Company intend to produce the tyres in a variety of colours. So they came up with this so that women could adjust their stockings at night?
Anyway, I guess something like this would be any car-tuners dream. According to LIFE magazine this is one of the 30 dumbest inventions. The Cigarette Pack Holder must be the dumbest ever, right before the Venetian Blind Sunglasses, yeah Kanye, really.
This is the Maserati Boomerang, a concept car from 1971. I don’t believe that current concept cars will look that fresh in 40 years. The Boomerang is a beast, just look at the wheels.
I’m a real fan of Mad Men, a TV series by AMC about the men and women of Madison Avenue advertising in the 1960′s. The acting, art direction and camera work are outstanding.
The advertising agency GSD&M Idea City, a real one, came up with the idea to do a collaboration between Mad Men, BMW and Vanity Fair. They produced on the set of Mad Men and with the show’s stylists and art director, a 5 page pictorial fold-out which will be published in the September issue of Vanity Fair. The idea behind is that America’s perceptions of diesel is still stuck in the 1960’s and wanted to juxtapose this with reality.
What about that? Mad Men really advertise something.
Burning Car by SUPERFLEX is an 10 minute long film of a car burning. The detail shots of the car-paint coming off are amazing. The sound is a nice extra too. (BTW, press the HQ button when you watch the video.)
Today is the 4th birthday of Today and Tomorrow. I don’t really want to look back, it’s today afterall. All I can say it’s been a very nice experience so far, 2804 posts and counting.
What about tomorrow? Yeah, some upgrades/updates are long overdue. Time is not my best friend.
What could be better content for Today and Tomorrow than a concept car from yesterday? Actually the BMW GINA concept car debuted last year. Its shape is not revolutionary, but its skin design is. Just watch this new video.
I know that I’m a little internet-late to this party but the iQ Agility Font is a really cool project. The Belgian advertising agency Happiness Brussels asked Pierre Smeets and Damien Aresta of pleaseletmedesign to create a typeface with a Toyota iQ. They collaborated with Stef van Campenhoudt, a pro race pilot, who had to drive all the characters with the iQ. Zachary Lieberman wrote a custom software to track the movements of the car and translate them into single characters. Of course you can download the font for free here. You can find some making of pictures in this Flickr set.
Tonight was the award show of the Cannes Cyber Lions 2009, one of the most well-known awards in the advertising industry. This years winner of the Grand Prix was Fiat eco:Drive by the agency AKQA London.
Fiat eco:Drive is system that is very similar to Nike+. When you plugin in an USB stick in to your Fiat, all the data of your drive will be saved on it. Back at home, you can upload that data to a small piece of software that analyses and visualizes it. Then you’ll get tips how to drive more efficient and save fuel to be more eco friendlier. Etc etc … I just love projects like this one, an excellet combination of the online and offline world.
All the other winners of the Cyber Lions will be online in the morning.
If you want to know more about this, then you should watch this video where Adobe talks to Fiat and the agency about the whole process.
