This video of the Vegetal Chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, shows you the different design iterations they went through to get to the final result. The different drawings illustrate the whole “growing” process. The chair is available from Vitra.
Alice Wang designed 5 “Chairs for the Dysfunctional”. The “Skilled Tilter” would fit me perfectly, it would also be interesting to try out the “Constant Shaker”. It calculates the amount of calories burnt when one fidgets or shakes their leg when sitting down. The “Status Announcer” would be for everyone with a Facebook or Twitter account.
This is the Prince Charles Side Chair, a collaboration between Peter Shire and Modernica Studio. It does look familiar right? But still a little weird … the legs.
Some years ago, Modernica bought the original molds of the Eames Shell Chairs from Herman Miller. They just didn’t buy the rights to the name, so they can’t call them Eames chairs. Actually Modernica still produces the fiberglass version, Vitra on the other hand produces a plastic version.
Red Chair is a video – light – projection – installation by Teemu Määttänen. It is basically an animation that is mapped onto a chair. But the effect is minimal but still really nice. Here you can find some similar projects.
Everyone who ever played around with some 3D modelling software know the lathe function. Sebastian Brajkovic took that esthetic to the real world. One of his objects is this Lathe Chair VII. If you are in London you can go and visit his exhibition at Carpenters Workshop Gallery.
This table and chair are designed by the French designer Philippe Nigro. They were introduced during the exhibition “Design Available for Production” oganised by VIA. The table is called “Universal Base”, its name and the pictures explain everything I guess. You can just clamp any board to the legs, its width, length or thickness can be variable. The chair (or chairs) is called “Twin Chair”. Very nice work!
