Patricia Urquiola designed a new collection of different chairs for the Italian furniture brand Moroso, called Tropicalia. She used 3 different materials for the weaving, so you have outside and inside versions. This RGB one is my favorite.

Oscar and Ewan is a small graphic design studio in London. They were asked to participate in the Polygon Show and were given a 3D shape to respond to, a cube. They decided not to show a cube, but to remove it from a small furniture setup.

It is hard to say if Roy McMakin is an artist or a furniture designer. I really like how he plays with positive and negative space to combine different objects.

This is the ‘Divided Cube’, one of the 7 Numen Lights. It is actually a very basic object, made with two-sided mirrors and fluorescent tubes. Although the effect isn’t new, numen / for use designed 7 geometrical shapes who all have their unique reflections. Some even have flexible surfaces who move mechanically, so not only when you change your point of view you’ll get an amazing optical effect. The one below is the inside view of an Octahedron.

This is the ‘Mural Dishwasher’ by Marie-Christine Lacasse & Marie Claude Savard, they are both graduate students from the environment design program at the Centre de Design at the University of Quebec in Montreal. This is really interesting concept, it combines the cabinets to store the tableware with a dishwasher. You would fill up a compartment with dirty dishes, then the dishwasher would move from one to another.

Today is going to be a beautiful day in Berlin, we expect up to 20° Celcius. So sunglasses will be all over town. These ones are designed by Anna ter Haar for Klavers van Engelen, dripping hot.

Anna knows her way around with plastics; her chairs, stools and tables were also on display in Milan last week.

My favorites Swedes of Front Design also presented new work this week. This first project is called ‘Shade’, they are hand drawn objects which are materialized like illustrations. I guess you remember their Sketch Furniture project.

‘Randomly Crystallized’ was commissioned by Swarovski for their Crystal Palace. Front Design merged precision-cut crystals with hot liquid crystal to create these unique objects. I find this lamp more interesting than the vases they did.

Sometimes you only need 6 chairs and a plank of wood to make a bench. ‘Bench2‘ by Sschemata, known for their 63.02° house. But you can do it the other way around too.

‘A touch of Green’ is the title of the exhibition by Droog Design in Milan. Here are 2 projects that I picked out:
‘Table Tap’ by Arnout Visser. A simple and funny idea.
‘Massive Infection’ by Pieke Bergmans. She worked together with a glass blower to create these crystal vases who are pressed (still hot) onto the wooden objects and then leave black burned stains. This one of the best things I’ve seen for a while! She has a lot more projects like this one on her website.

This is the new Copper Table Light by Tom Dixon, he presented it today together with other new products at Superstudio Più in Milan, Italy. I really like its surface and color, he actually has some more designs using copper. Today was the official start of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, we will see what the next days bring.
