Tadaa the iPhone SDK is here, ok it’s still in beta though. So if you have seen the presentation video, you might be quite excited too. Just skip to minute 41 and there you have it, nintendo Wii-like controls for gaming. The big advantage that Apple has, is that they have full control over the hardware and software. And that’s where I see the weakest point of the Google Android platform.
And for those of you who are still waiting for the Flash plugin for the iPhone. I guess as long as Adobe doesn’t make a custom player, we won’t see Flash on the iPhone. How would the iPhone / Flash player scale down Flash content anyway? And is the processor strong enough? Battery life? … just forget about it.
I actually had to use someone else’s mac to have a look at the SDK, I still have a G4 Powerbook and you’ll need an intel one.
The iPhone has an accelerometer to detect if you tilt it (to turn the browser or picture) or when bring it to your ear (to dim the screen), which is quite clever. A few months ago some videos popped up with people showing how they controlled content on their pc with a Wii remote. So it was just a mater of time till similar projects for the iPhone appeared. Of course this is way more interesting as you have a screen in ‘your game controller’. You can read more about it here.

Pursuit Across Europe is an online game by BMW, the story is a car pursuit from Lisbon to Prag. The game itself isn’t that exciting, at least the first 2 courses aren’t, but I think they did a great job on the graphics, the video’s in between and the whole narration.
This is Living is part of the whole Playstation 3 launch in Europe. And here is a very confusing TV commercial …
But I’m still happy with my nintendo Wii.
Almost 2 months ago I posted an article about the first Wiimote hacks (the wireless nintendo Wii controller), I predicted that people would try to use it together with flash. Joa Ebert and his friends managed to get it working: WiiFlash. Hell yeah, check out their demo with Papervision3D (an open source flash 3D engine), the last part is the most impressive part.
Bring on the source code!

The Nintendo is having a promotion here in Germany for it’s new game console Wii. They opened 3 cribs, in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin, where people can try out the Wii. Ofcourse it’s an invitation only thing, but Sirstick has the right connections so we went together this afternoon. We tried out tennis, bowling, golf, baseball and boxing. It was fun! Especially tennis and boxing. Forget about obese gaming teenagers, this thing is like a workout machine. I’m not a gamer at all but I want to try out again.
The first time that I saw cup stacking was about 6 years ago. But this movie is the next level: dice stacking!

Here’s some inspiration for the coming gift season: a pixel scarf by bits2die4.

Moritz Waldemeyer is some sort of artist-technologist-… his works are just amazing. Here some of my favorites:

This Pong Table has 2500 integrated LED’s and 2 touch pads to recreate the classic Pong game. When switched off it’s just a table. The Roulette Table is similar but works together with the lamp.

He also helped out Ron Arad with his ‘Miss Haze’ for Swarovski.

Last but not least, he added the electronics to the 6 transforming dresses in Hussein Chalayan’s spring/summer 2007 collection.
