Goshka Macuga was one of the 4 nominees for the Turner Price 2008. She presented these 3 installations called “Haus der Frau 1″, “Haus der Frau 2″ and “Deutsches Volk – deutsche Arbeit”, beside other work. They are based on the collaboration between Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich during the 20ies and 30ies. “Haus de Frau 1″ & “Haus der Frau 2″ are actually displays to present textiles, just like Mies van der Rohe & Lilly Reich did. “Deutsches Volk – deutsche Arbeit” was actually designed by Mies van der Rohe & Lilly Reich for an exhibtion to promote German glass.
In this video Goshka talks about her work and exhibition at the Tate Galery.
This video shows a public toilet in Lausanne, Switserland. It was designed by Oloom and its walls are partly made of liquid crystal glass. Under electric tension they are transparent, out of tension they turn opaque. I’m not sure how many people dare to use this toilet.
It actually reminds me of the dressing rooms at the Prada stores who feature just the same technology.
Pieke Bergmans was invited by Al-Sabah Art & Design Collection to do a new version of her Design Virus series. In this series she drops hand blown glass vases on existing objects, in this case on traditional Middle Eastern furniture. These objects were presented at the ALEF exhibition during Design Miami.
