Musical genres are always heavily codified and rap seems to be one of the most extreme ones, each video has similar if not identical subjects, the same light, the same cars, the same girls, the same dance moves etc. Through their likeness they seem to be almost ‘classic’, just as classic theater or opera.
The Conductor is a video installation by Rashaad Newsome. He isolated, enlarged and repositioned hand moves from Hip Hop music videos to create a conductor for “O Fortuna” and “Fortune Plango Vulnera” form Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”. Dope!

These quilts are the graduation project “Life After Death” of Anne Brenneke. They feature 4 deceased rap legends: Eazy-E, The Norotious B.I.G., Big L and J Dilla. I think that these quilts are 10 times better than any fan poster or t-shirt!
