The “Collection of Light” by humans since 1982 is probably the best lamp I’ve seen in a while. It is simply a collection of LEDs which together constitute a lamp in itself. They wanted to create an aura of a real collection (similar to a collection of insects) and expose each illuminant as a worthy industrial product. The LEDs are all labeled (with name, size and colour temperature) and arranged in a specific order to accomplish harmonic light.
I want one!

Last September, Dominic Wilcox did the Speed Creating project, he tried to make something creative every single day. The results are amazing. Here’re 4 of them:
Day 2: Pop Up Train Tray Surprise

Day11: Beach Ball Chair

Day 24: I remember you well – a tin foil bust of Dominic Wilcox at the age of 21.

Day 28: Inflated socks

The Daylight Entrance by Daniel Rybakken is all about the illusion of daylight. It’s an light installation in the entrance and staircase of an office building. Both don’t have any natural light, but these panels give you the positive sensation of sunlight. The back of the panels were hollowed by CNC-milling and then backlit with a lot of LED’s.
You might also want to have a look at his “Subconscious Effect of Daylight” sidetable.

When it comes to product design, I’m a real fan of simple but good ideas. This table lamp called “Drawing Lamp” by Thomas Feichtner would be an excellent example. Although I’m curious to see it lit.
