‘Made in Berlin’ was a small exhibition during this years DMY Berlin. The title is self explanatory and here are 2 projects that I really liked.
This lamp by Flip Sellin, called Polygon Crash.

Regal_zzz by Adrian Lippmann, you can get this shelf in many configurations.

Campanula by Viktor on Wheels.

Ikarus by Aylin Kayser & Christian Metzner is a wax lamp. On the photo you can see 5 different phases of the lamp. The heat of the light bulb lets the wax melt, which leads to unpredictable deformations. I would like to know how long it takes untill your lampshade is completely gone.
Tonight was the opening DMY 2008, an annual design show in Berlin. Thanks to my buddy Watson I had the chance to go to the press preview of the DMY Youngsters exhibition. There were a lot of interesting and nice designs, so I start off with Mesdames Plissées by Petra Wüstling. There are 3 different models of the light object, you could describe it as a plissée skirt lampshade. The different layers and folds make it really interesting.

‘Pull’ and ‘Nike Air’ by Valentin Ruhry.

Oscar and Ewan is a small graphic design studio in London. They were asked to participate in the Polygon Show and were given a 3D shape to respond to, a cube. They decided not to show a cube, but to remove it from a small furniture setup.

This is the ‘Divided Cube’, one of the 7 Numen Lights. It is actually a very basic object, made with two-sided mirrors and fluorescent tubes. Although the effect isn’t new, numen / for use designed 7 geometrical shapes who all have their unique reflections. Some even have flexible surfaces who move mechanically, so not only when you change your point of view you’ll get an amazing optical effect. The one below is the inside view of an Octahedron.

This is one of the installations by Olafur Eliasson, it’s just a spotlight and a mirror. You can go and see it at his exhibition called ‘The Inside Of Outside’ at the neugerriemschneider gallery in Berlin till June 21.
