Noisy Typer is a new speed project by Theo Watson. It’s a free piece of software which plays typewriter sounds as you type. It runs in the background and works with all applications ( email, web, word etc ). Key sounds include: letter keys, spacebar, backspace, carriage return and scroll up and down. At the moment it’s OS X only.
While the visitor keeps their eyes shut, a moving platform guides a pen in their hand to draw a self-portrait, using computer vision to track their face and generate a line drawing. The result is a machine-aided drawing, a self-portrait you could never draw.

Petros Vrellis made a very fascinating version of “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh. He wanted to visualize the flow of the famous painting and let user can interact with it by touch. The result is stunning! Even the sound responds to the flow.

Time Print Machine by Paul Ferragut is a printing system using felt pen on blotting paper. The felt-pen ink bleed in the paper for a duration relative to the grey value of a pixel. Every “time stain” gradually recreates any images in a pointillist style. The aim of this project is to emphasize the making process, it can take 20 hours to print one color on a A2 paper.
The Hong Kong musician/producer/composer Gaybird Leung asked Henry Chu to create a music app for his show Digital Hug. He wanted an instrument that could respond to body gesture like a theremin. So Henry developed Squeal which is based on his other app SoundGyro. With Squeal you’ll be able to trigger sounds by tapping on the eyes, nose, and cheeks of a face. And if you tilt the iPad you’ll be able switch between 3 octaves. The app will be available in the app store from July on, but you can still submit your own portrait to be part of it.

Receipt Racer is a microproject by undef and Joshua Noble. It a simple game which they developed during the “Let’s feed the future workshop”, part of the OFFF Festival in Barcelona on June 8th 2011. The goal of the game is to drive a car on a race track and to avoid the obstacles. The game is self was made with openFrameworks. The design of the race track was live printed on a thermal receipt printer and the car was beamed on top of that. A very simple game very well executed!
Adam Harvey is currently writing his thesis at the ITP and his topic is Computer Vision Dazzle. He’s researching and developing privacy enhancing counter technology, to protect individual privacy for everyone. So here you can find some makeup patterns which make it impossible for the OpenCV library and it’s Haar cascade files, to detect a face. Fun times ahead!
