Yes, Flash is finally getting mature, Actionscript 3 and the Flash 9 player are giving us some more power. Adobe even released a beta Flash player that supports multi-core processors for some tasks! And now with Parklabs beat detection class for Actionscript 3, you won’t need any external tool anymore to build some VJ app.

Josh Nimoy got together with the GRL at OFFF 2007 and coded a new brush for their L.A.S.E.R. Tag. He also made it available to us as a desktop tool to play around with. So you can download the GRL Graffiti Brush here.

This is still from a movie by Robert Hodgin (a.k.a. flight404). It’s programmed with processing and it really shows the power of it, remember the Audi TT movie. You can watch a high quality quicktime video here. AMAZING!

This piece of art, called “Der Wirklichkeitsschaum“, by Eno Henze is programmed with vvvv, a software tool used by a lot of video artists. Eno showed us that you can also use it for print, this piece is 10 by 3,5 meters and build with 288 A3 prints.
He has more amazing works on his website.
Did you ever wonder how designers and architects come up with those crazy shapes? Well, here is the answer: they script them! Yeah it’s just some math and formulas fed to 3D software like Rhinoceros. So now you know why you pay that much …
Ok, that’s a little exaggerated, but still.
This coffee table called “Polytop” by Marc Fornes is a perfect example. Every table is unique, which is easily accomplished with scripting and modern production techniques like CNC.

So here’s another book tip:

Unfortunately there are a lot of spoilers in the costumer reviews.
Almost 2 months ago I posted an article about the first Wiimote hacks (the wireless nintendo Wii controller), I predicted that people would try to use it together with flash. Joa Ebert and his friends managed to get it working: WiiFlash. Hell yeah, check out their demo with Papervision3D (an open source flash 3D engine), the last part is the most impressive part.
Bring on the source code!

This pattern probably took hours in Photoshop or Illustrator … I guess not, it was done with Apple’s build in graphics engine called Quartz Composer and a webcam by TODAY, CREATE.
Did I already mention that I really like the name of that blog?
If google finds this post, it will be the 9,300,001st iPhone article …
Now I can start saving for this beauty as it will only become available the 4th quarter this year in Europe.
