I’m currently in my way to L.A. to attend the opening of “Transmission LA – AV Club“. It’s the second edition of the AVANT/GARDE DIARIES TRANSMISSION festival, this time it’s currated by Mike D of the Beastie Boys and it will take place in Los Angeles. Mike D invited 17 outstanding artists from multiple disciplines to create an exceptional 17 days event consisting of concerts, DJ nights, performances and installations. Here’s a video and some pictures of them building the event. More soon.
BTW, this is the first today and tomorrow post from somewhere above the Atlantic.

Emilio Gomariz made some new OS X GUI animations and I think they are stunning.
“Alternated Gradients” is combination of 5 videos of the screensaver “Spectrum”. BTW, he also has this screensaver as his desktop wallpaper.
“ctrl tab torus” is an animation created by using the ctrl + tab keys in Photoshop to cycle through the open windows.
“Twist Choreography” – the effect is just created by opening text files from the dock.
“Open_Close.txt – Default – this one is similar to the last one, just that each file opens as a colored square.

‘INTIMACY 2.0′ by Studio Roosegaarde is high-tech fashion made out of smart e-foil. In response to the heartbeat of each person, ‘INTIMACY 2.0′ becomes more or less transparent.

What do you think will happen when you combine a sanding machine and a pipe of paper. John Wood & Paul Harrison found out and made this awesome video.

Punishment is a new series of works by Julius von Bismarck. He traveled to Switzerland, South America and the United States to whip mother nature or certain landmarks, like the Atlantic ocean, a glacier or the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro. He made beautiful video documentations of each whipping, unfortunately I could only find the video of the whipping of the Jesus statue in Brazil. Tonight I had the chance to see a few other ones and the one where’s whipping the waves of the Atlantic was definitely my favorite one.

“Prismatica” is a new piece by Kit Webster. He attached pyramid-shaped crystals to an LCD screen and made a programmed geometric animation precisely mapped to the vertices of the crystals, illuminating them individually and in formation. The animations are further refracted through the geometry of the crystals in accordance with the shifting perspective of the observer, which in turn alters the way the illuminations appear and interact with reflections of surrounding lights within the space.

“Applause” & “Rolling Stone” are 2 kinetic installations by Joshua Sassmannshausen. I’m not sure if I would like to have one of them in my home, but maybe in my office.
